In an audio interview Hemingford Grey resident Jack Millard (pictured above) recounts his time in the Royal Navy during World War 2
The recording was made a few years ago by John Jenkin and Tony Aston, shortly after Jack was awarded the
Medal of Ushakov by the Russian Embassy for his service on the Russian Convoys.
Jack was also involved in an attack on the German Battleship "Tirpitz" in the lead up to it's sinking by RAF bombers.
As the war ended Jack was on duty in the Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean and off Australia.
